The crescent, being a periodic light source, fluctuates between visibility and invisibility, symbolising the cyclic nature of life. In contrast, the star, a constant light source, signifies enduring presence and constancy.
Merzouk further argues that the star carries additional significance as a symbol of the five pillars of Islam, reinforcing the strong Islamic identity embedded in the national flag.
